Renew is a faith-based non-profit created to meet two needs of the refugee population: community and employment. We achieve this by offering free sewing and ESL classes to refugee women who have resettled in the Chicagoland area, tangibly showing Christ's love. When possible, we hire the graduates of the sewing program to work in our studio where they create and sew beautiful products sold in-store and online.

Our Classes:

Sewing Classes: Renew offers free sewing classes to any immigrant woman, regardless of her skill level. This class is taught once a week in the studio by volunteer sewing teachers. Throughout the class, students learn about sewing basics, machine maintenance, and how to make Renew products. There are 18 lessons and students move at their own pace.

ESL Classes: Our ESL classes are volunteer-led, conversationally based, and adjusted to meet the needs of the individual Artisan or student. These classes are offered for free to students and Artisans.

Our Artisan Program:

Renew offers flexible, part-time employment to graduates of the sewing class. While an Artisan, they enjoy community through friendship, continued ESL classes, Bible Study, a mentor, and the opportunity to refine their workplace skills. They also have access to Renew’s Alistair Care and Share Fund to help cover unexpected needs. Artisans are welcome to stay in our program for two years, finishing their time with a graduation ceremony to celebrate their incredible growth before they take the next step in their careers!
