Sewing Classes

Our sewing classes continue are a core tenet at Renew. We believe that by offering a tangible skill for women resettled here in Chicagoland, Renew is providing greater opportunities for them to gain employment either at Renew or elsewhere. It is empowering and healing when women work side by side to learn a new skill and create something beautiful with their hands.

Our sewing class is free and available for all immigrant women in the Chicagoland area. These free classes are offered to share the love of Jesus to those around us!

If you are interested in becoming a student, please fill out the intake form online or stop by the studio. Our application process is rolling and applications are accepted at all times.

Sewing Classes are offered on Fridays, 9am-11:30 am

ESL Instruction

While there are various opportunities for people to continue their English skills, what makes our classes unique is the deep sense of community formed around the table. Women find safety and connection as they grow in their vital language skills. When women feel seen, loved, and welcomed, they are provided the freedom to fully explore and expand upon their growing language abilities.

Our English as a second language (ESL) class is free and available for all immigrant women in the Chicagoland area. These free classes are offered to share the love of Jesus to those around us!

Bible Study

Our community is deeply rooted in scripture and it’s a joy to offer free Bible classes to our refugee sisters on a weekly basis. Volunteer-led, our Bible classes are taught in such a way that they are accessible to women growing in their English skills. The trust and community built around the table as women explore who Jesus is, learn from the Bible, and apply it to their lives is a beautiful and core part of our life at Renew.

A Safe, Supportive Environment

We ensure that community time is at the core of the experience through shared coffee/tea time and community lunches. These always encourage conversations and the support of each other beyond work life.

The Artisan program includes additional English classes and Bible classes taught by skilled volunteers. With the number of hours spent around the sewing tables, classroom tables, and dining table, the Artisans are experiencing holistic support and community.

  • Graduates of our sewing class often continue into an apprenticeship in our Artisan studio or pursue employment elsewhere with renewed confidence and skills.

  • We invite you to explore our  handmade products—sold online and in our store—that reflect their journeys of dignity, peace, creativity, and hope.
